How did you get into RuneScape?
I was playing alot of poker online after I had finally quit playing Starcraft after 3 years, and my mom’s boyfriend (Thumphead) came into town one day and said I should try Runescape. I spent a long time thinking of what kind of name I wanted, something that would be rememberable over millions of other names, and once I had it, he logged in and gave me stuff like Full Steel, a few hundred Runes and Arrows, a Steel Pick and Axe, and 10k coins. I was the richest noob in Lumbridge. I followed him around for a week while he showed me how to train each skill and how to quest. We met someone who was a lvl 60+ combat player and he was making fun of me. Thump told him that in a month, he would make me better in every skill than he was. I became addicted, and for the first year, I played every spare moment I had, even sacrificing work and almost my relationship with my woman. If I still played with such intensity, I would be a top 1,000 player, like Thumphead has become.
Do any of your friends/relatives from real life play RuneScape?
My mother of course, started playing when I did. She’s ranked higher than me and has more dedication. Her boyfriend also plays, and my girlfriend has an account that she used to occasionally play on, but hardly ever anymore. I have met alot of people in real life from having casual conversation that indeed had a Runescape account.
Are you bold enough to talk about RuneScape in public?
Referring to the above answer. I am quite proud of Runescape. Shiddy Smell helped me get a job at one of the nation’s top RPG retailer’s until I moved away- Troll and Toad. When they saw my rank and compared it to some of the other employees who they knew who played, they were impressed enough to let me skip straight into a department that was above the standard order processing and packaging departments, and instead into development and sales.
Do you play any other MMORPGs?
I have tried Guild Wars and World of Warcraft, but never found either as addictive as Runescape. The simplicity of the game is what makes it so compelling.
What is your greatest achievement in Runescape to date?
Possibly, considering how little I play these days, it’s my bank. I am fortunately wealthy compared to 90% or more players in the game. This is an advantage I have gained which could lead to endless other possibilities.
Do you have any RuneScape tips?
Never set your goals too high. Do not turn the game into a job. Play to have fun and reap the rewards that come. If you find it fun to level a skill to 99, which is the hardest thing in Runescape to do, then do it. But if you find it more fun to cut trees for an hour, mine ore for an hour, fish for an hour, and then go fight zombies, by all means, go do it and have fun. Do not base your accomplishments off others. Everyone plays differently and if you don’t play for fun, then Runescape will quickly become a job that you will regret playing.
